A CASHBOX SAFE FROM A SAFE-CRACKER OR WHEN YOU CAN'T SAVE ON SOFTWARE
We always keep our PDA or the handheld with us except perhaps a bathroom. And this is quite explainable: a mini-computer in the pocket makes us feel efficient and invincible as the iconic Arnie in the Terminator. But will you enjoy your PDA if you save on the software?
Let's try to get to the bottom.
Though prices for PDA software in comparison with the same for desktop computers and laptops are much lower, the desire to save together with a low risk to get caught dirty-handed work wonders. Each of us daily faces a temptation to download some hacked or in other words, stolen software. And this is much due to the fact that internet provides users with a billion of opportunities to get any application developed in any part of the globe without a risk. This is internet, so...
Low express liability and risk of getting punished make it possible for us to save our pocket money with clear conscience and use hacked software. Because in everyday life, in reality, we won't buy a thing if we know exactly that it was stolen.
But let us put aside the issues of personal ethics and law. This article is intended to deal with practical issues of using hacked products.
Let's put a question in other words - are there any hacked software that a person must never use? Can it damage us morally, financially or even be harmful to our health? The answer is yes, and of course I am not talking about the trivial threat of catching a virus but that there is a range of programs that cannot be downloaded after crack.
The first in my list are those applications that are designed to serve you as safe keepers of your personal information, your long-term memory, a key into your intimate world. They are often called personal data or password managers. Credit cards and PIN codes numbers, bank accounts and insurance policies, e-mails of your relatives and friends, ip-addresses of your home and work computers and laptops, passwords and much more important information - all this can be kept in your PDA. You probably won't tell your credit card PIN number or your new bank account number to your yet another girlfriend but you will share it with your little friend PDA.
But just imagine, you download a hacked application. Are you sure you are willing, to save a large amount of cash, which you might have saved all your life, to get a used cashbox bought from a safe-cracker? Knowing that this cashbox or a safe was already cracked? Are you sure that the safe-cracker won't visit you next time? Well, if you are a man of sense, you won't act this way. If you want to buy a cashbox, most probably, you'll make some inquiries, refer to your friends for some information, have a thought about the type of cashboxes you need, look through the manufacturers, their business reputation, etc. And only then you'll be able to make a choice according to your individual requirements. The same is true for password management software.
The application even if free from any viruses and malware can be badly transformed after crack: the quality can go down or some functions can freeze up. Such software will allow any person to look through the information on your PDA. Such curious person is not necessarily a thief or a criminal, he may be your relative or family member. For example, your son who will withdraw some money from your credit card to go out with his girlfriend hoping that you won't notice the lack of money. Or it can be your wife who can track down that you opened a bank account on your own name. This can happen to anyone.
So the conclusion is simple: if you don't wish that someone else could use your pins or keys, choose only quality, licensed software! Moreover, make a research about the company's reputation, read reviews of the customers, download demo versions or trials, and try to understand what application suits you better, and only after these steps buy it. Only then you will be sure that your personal and financial information is safely kept.
Try before buy! Some requirements for PDA password managers:
1. Reliability of the developer, its reputation, company's history;
2. Quick and high-quality technical support if you forget the pin, for example;
3. Technical requirements suiting your individual requirements, including:
a. interface-friendliness;
b. easiness in dealing with the application;
c. default saving of data when PDA is switched off;
d. synchronization of data with another computer;
e. self-selection of the number of digits of the password, and so on.
From a number of offers currently available on the market, there are some good ones from reliable developers of password managers for different kinds of PDA.

For Android, there are some free applications but still under development.
The second category of software which we strongly do not recommend to have after hack, is medical software including prescription managers and medical organizers.
Who buys such software? First of all, it's people who suffer from chronic diseases. This application is real good for such people, especially when they have to change medications too often, and sometimes - a question of vital necessity. Secondly, these are simply the people who take care of their health and who take vitamins, food additives and other food supplements strictly in time. The medical application reminding you about administration of medications as regular as clockwork releases you from writing little papers and sticking them everywhere. It disburdens you from keeping in mind when and what medicines you must take.
Just imagine for a moment that the software is malfunctioning and you take something you are not supposed to take or take it at a different time or simply overlook to take a medication! Improper administration of medication can end up with zero result at the most and with fatal case at the worst. And what if at stake is your child's health or even life?
All in all, you won't waste your money having bought expensive medication but not having taken it in time as scheduled. So can you entrust your health to the software of which you are not sure, which you got at second hand and of which you can't tell what changes it has gone through after it was cracked by a hacker?
I usually write about technology and gadgets. PDA and software are my favourite topics.
