Microsoft Office, Free With Google Docs
Ah Microsoft Office the ultimate monopoly document creation application suite. It's universal to use and almost everyone uses it. Well of course with the hefty price put on this office suite people are always looking at compatible alternatives. There is Open Office and Neo Office but those require you to download a bunch of applications and they are not always as compatible as they should be, but they are free which makes them nice alternatives. If you do a little digging on the Internet you can find something much better and more universal than any other product (even Microsoft Office itself) and its name is Google Documents.
Google Documents is an online suite of applications that help you create all the things you can create in Microsoft Office. Nothing needs to be downloaded to use Google Documents, its completelyy free, and you can store all your existing and new documents online by creating them in Google Docs or Uploading them from your computer. Accessing and editing your documents is as easy as logging into your free Google Account and going to docs.
You can create presentations, word documents, and spreadsheets all within Google Documents separate editors online. You will find all the features you would in any document creation software right at your fingertips. When your finished you can also export any of your Google created documents to your computer in a variety of formats as well as all supported document types by the Microsoft Office Suite.
Google Docs goes a step further though. Since its online and always at your fingertips no matter what Internet connected computer you are on you can also create collaborated documents with others! Both you and your friends or colleagues can easily collaborate on one or more documents at one time all using Google docs. All everyone needs is a Google account with docs enabled and bam easy collaboration editing for all.
The only document file type I know that Google Docs doesn't support is the .docx or any '.x' files. You can easily re-save your .docx files to .doc to use them in Google Docs instead. I use google docs all the time to create all my essays and presentations for college and I can say it's great to know I saved money and gained a better and free web application instead.
The only other drawback to google docs is you need to be online to create documents in it, but since most people are online almost 90% of the time they are the computer (or so i think) it shouldn't be too much of a hassle to type it up in Wordpad or Textedit when offline and then copy it into google documents later.
Go give Google Documents a try today! If you don't love it, you can at least use it as a nice backup file server for your documents, and it's all for free!
