Matt Haller is a defense lawyer who works out of his Lincoln. When a wealthy Realtor is accused of raping a prostitute, Haller is asked to defend him. The man claims that the woman is trying to get some money out of him. But when Haller looks at the evidence against him, he learns that this case might be linked to an old case of his.

Here is what one fan had to say about the film: Hey, this isn't half bad at all. I'll be honest and say I wasn't expecting much, so it was nice to be pleasantly surprised. Okay, it's no 'Primal Fear' - but it's as good as any Grisham adaptation.

The script is pacey and smart, with some excellent lines from the central character - played with just the right balance of sass and integrity by Matthew McConaughey. In fact, everyone in the cast was up to the mark - and it's always a pleasure to see Marisa Tomei up there: a fine actress who deserves to be seen more often. Willliam H Macy, too, is always worth watching.

As for the story... I thought it gave an interesting angle on the classic legal/moral problem : the failed defence in which an innocent client goes to jail, and the successful defence that acquits a killer.

I haven't read the Michael Connelly novel, but I think I will now - if only to see more of the Mick Haller character. His back-story wasn't much more than suggested in the film - lost licence, broken marriage, smartness that's a combination of natural intelligence and life at the grittier edge of things. I want to know more!

A couple of quiet spots, and a little bit of overstating the obvious (a la 'CSI'), but otherwise this is a highly entertaining film. The perfect antidote to some of the blockbusters and cartoons on offer at the moment.

In March of this year my daughter and her 50 something male friend moved into our beach home because the home they were living in was sold. My husband and I had just purchased a beach home we want to use as a retirement home. We felt sorry for them because the daughter has been out of a job for 5 years and the guy told my husband he would give him a $1000.00 per month and watch the place for us since we live in another state. They have been there for almost 10 months and we have gotten rent maybe 3 times. We have been going down on holidays to stay there because the home cost us $2300.00 a month. We buy food and supplies for the home and take them out to dine when we are there. I ask my daughter to send the rent and she says the utilities are horriable and they have to drive 70 miles into work. Whenever I ask her about the rent, which we actually need to make the payment she complains about everything and makes up lies. She has even made the comment "now you know how I feel" not having any money. Her male friend has an online education system and is making money. He recently was in a fake auto accident and is trying to get disability and this is since I mentioned to her they we going to have to move. We want our beach house back and to be able to vacation there without staying in the basement and being used for food and booze. I love my daughter or I use to but she betrays me. They also keep making up stories about things tearing up and repair cost. We also have another child who pretty much does us the same or tries to make us feel guilty about not giving more to her and she is in the Social Services field and does not want to work but get everything for free. Is it us or is the younger generation fleecing their parents?

How can I "reset" my computer without losing all my files?
My Windows XP computer used to be pretty quick, but now it's unbearably slow. I'd like to "reset" it without losing files and settings. What I have to use: A 40GB Windows XP machine, hardwired to a router A 320GB Windows 7 laptop, can handle wireless or hardwire connections An ethernet cable NO USB DEVICES (USB ports on the XP machine are not working) A wireless router. In the past, I have moved files from my XP to the Win7 laptop using the Windows Easy Transfer. The reasons I don't like this method are: -it won't let me use an ethernet cable to move files -the Wireless transfer method took almost 30 minutes to move 1GB of files (meaning 10 hours for 20 GB of files) -There is no way to move the files from Windows 7 back to the XP machine after that is complete. If you know of any online free file storage places that allow me to store 20GB-25GB of data for free, let me know. Thanks.
